How many sessions does laser hair removal take?

Most clients need six to eight diode laser sessions, or eight to twelve IPL sessions, spaced four to eight weeks apart. Course length depends on hair coarseness, colour, body area and hormonal factors rather than on machine price. Maintenance sessions once or twice a year are common afterwards.

Why spacing matters

Light-based hair removal only damages follicles in the active anagen growth phase, and only a proportion of follicles are in anagen at any time. Spacing sessions four to eight weeks apart, shorter on the face and longer on the body, catches successive waves of follicles as they enter anagen. Treating too frequently wastes sessions rather than accelerating results.

What lengthens a course

Fine or light-coloured hair, which carries less melanin. Hormonal drivers such as PCOS, which continue to recruit new follicles. Large or dense areas. Darker skin treated at necessarily conservative fluence on 1064nm. Broadband IPL rather than a single coherent wavelength.

Setting expectations at consultation

Sell reduction, not permanent removal, and quote a session range rather than a single number. Clinics that set this expectation at consultation see fewer disputes at session four and better course completion — which is worth more commercially than a slightly better close rate on session one.
